Longline fishing is the main way in which sharks are caught. You will remember I told you about Longline fishing earlier and how it is done. The sad part is that this way of fishing results in the unnecessary catching and killing of thousands of us.
There are several reasons why humans used to hunt our bodies. For instance, before sandpaper was invented, our rough skin was used to smooth and polish wood.
Japanese warriors once wrapped our skin around their sword handles, to keep them from slipping from their hands.
North AMerican Indians used Great White shark teeth as arrowheads and weapons. Also, once the denticles are removed from our skin, it is often used as leather for making shoes and other clothing items.
Our meat is eaten in many Asian countries and our liver oil is a good source of Vitamin A. However, the main reason we are hunted nowadays is because of our fins. This is called finning.
