No animal or fish is more scary than the Great White shark. It is the most famous of my cousins and it is one of the oldest living types of creature on earth. You have probably seen him many times before and I think he looks very beautiful.

Most of the sharks in his family are around the size of a tree and weigh around one thousand and two hundred kilos. That is as heavy as two cars on top of each other. As pups, these sharks may be 4 feet long and have a full set of teeth. Mother sharks give birth to seven to nine live pups at a time, and are thought to produce only four to six times in their life time. They are strong and fast swimmers.

The Great White Shark eats nearly everything it can find, which is why a lot of people find it scary. They are known to attack, but not eat humans. Of course, if you stay away from it, then it will not harm you.

It prefers sea lions, dolphins and other sea animals as food although it begins its life by feeding on fish, rays, and other sharks. Great whites also usually eat sick and weak animals. This keeps the environment in the ocean healthy.

It was thought for a very long time, that there was nothing that could attack or kill a Great White shark, but it is now known that killer whales, known as Orcas, will attack and kill a great white.

The white shark makes its home in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. This shark is usually found in deeper water. However, a white shark will sometimes go to shallow water quite close to the shore, where it finds most of its food.
