Sharks are born three different ways, depending on their type. With some sharks, such as the hammerheads, the bull sharks, the blue shark and the whale shark, the eggs hatch inside the mother's body and the babies are fed by a cord which carries food from the mother to the babies.
Some sharks lay their eggs, hiding the eggs among corals, ( which will hatch later).
With the remaining sharks, the eggs hatch and the babies develop inside the mother's body but there is no cord to feed the pups. The pups eat any eggs and each other until they are born. Examples of these sharks are the Great White sharks, the Makos and the Tiger sharks.
Most sharks are born alive and ready to hunt, with a complete set of teeth. We can usually live between 30 to 50 years. We take about the same time as you do to grow up and we become adults at the same time as you do.
